Did you know you could launch a book with a 3-page essay? In Susan Shapiro’s inspiring panel, a top literary agent, book editor and 5 debut authors  spill their secrets at this exciting event to celebrate the opening of the new St. Marks Bookshop. 
Susan Shapiro is  author of 9 books including Lighting Up and Only As Good as Your Word. As a New School writing professor teaching the “instant gratification-takes-too-long” method, she’s helped 80 students publish books in the last decade.  
Kenan Trebincevic has written for the New York Times, WSJ, Slate and Salon and is the author of a debut memoir about how his Muslim family survived the ethnic cleansing campaign of the Balkan War, The Bosnia List (Penguin Press).
Maria Andreu,  a mother of two in New Jersey, has written for Newsweek and The Washington Post about being an illegal alien, the subject of her first novel The Secret Side of Empty (Running Press).
Renee Zuckerbrot, a former Doubleday book editor,  is founder of the Renee Zuckerbrot literary agent, which handles a wide range of literary fiction and nonfiction.
Laura Silver has written about Jewish topics for the New York TimesThe Forward, and Jerusalem Post and is the debut author of an unusual biography, Knish: In Search of the Jewish Soul Food (Brandeis University Press). 
Royal Young has written for New York Press, Interview Magazine and The New York Post. He’s  author of a gritty debut  memoir about being priced out of the Lower East Side neighborhood where he grew up,  “missing the boat twice,” in Fame Shark (Heliotrope Books).
Lisa Kirchner  has written for the Washington Post, Salon and New York Press. She writes about sexism, divorce and heartbreak in Qatar in her “anti-Eat-Pray-Love memoir”  Hello American Lady Creature (Greenpoint Press).
