PEN Poets: An Evening with PEN American Center

Join us for a night of poetry, wine, and talk at Brooklyn’s beloved BookCourt, where poets and PEN Members Catherine Barnett, Monica Ferrell, and Cathy Park Hong will read from their new work and engage the audience in conversation. 

PEN_catherinebarnettCatherine Barnett is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Whiting Writers Award, and a Pushcart. Her first book of poems, Into Perfect Spheres Such Holes Are Pierced, was published in 2004 by Alice James Books. Her second poetry collection, The Game of Boxes, is forthcoming from Graywolf Press in August 2012. She teaches at Barnard, The New School, and NYU, works as an independent editor, and is running the Emerging Poets Residency at Poets House.

 

PEN_monicaferrellMonica Ferrell is the author of a collection of poems, Beasts for the Chase, which won the Kathryn A. Morton Prize and was published by Sarabande Books, as well as of a novel, The Answer Is Always Yes (The Dial Press/Random House), which was named a Borders Original Voices Selection and one of Booklist’s Top Ten Debut Novels of 2008. Her poems have appeared or will appear in The New York Review of Books, A Public Space, The Paris Review, Tin House, Slateand many other journals and anthologies. A former Wallace Stegner Fellow and Discovery/The Nation prizewinner, she directs the creative writing program at Purchase College and lives in Brooklyn.

PEN_cathy-park-hongCathy Park Hong‘s first book, Translating Mo’um was published in 2002 by Hanging Loose Press. Her second collection, Dance Dance Revolution, was chosen for the Barnard Women Poets Prize and was published in 2007 by WW Norton. Her third book of poems, Engine Empire, will be published in May 2012 by WW Norton. Hong is also the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Her poems have been published in A Public Space, Poetry, Paris Review, Conjunctions, McSweeney’s, Boston Review, The Nation, Denver Quarterly, and other journals. She is an Assistant Professor at Sarah Lawrence College.
